2. How Ruby Relay Uses Browser Storage

Ruby Relay uses a minimal amount of browser storage. We do not use cookies or any other storage mechanism for advertising, cross-site tracking, or behavioral profiling.

3. Storage Categories

Chat Widget (on your website)

When a visitor interacts with the Ruby Relay chat widget on your website, we store data in the visitor's browser to maintain conversation state. This allows visitors to navigate between pages without losing their chat history and, where applicable, resume previous conversations on return visits. This data is first-party (scoped to your domain) and may be stored using cookies, session storage, or local storage depending on the feature and implementation.

• Conversation state (essential): Preserves the current chat session, including messages and connection status. Expires when the browser session ends or after a period of inactivity.
• Visitor recognition (functional): A random identifier that allows returning visitors to resume previous conversations. Does not contain personal information. Expires after 30 days of inactivity.

Dashboard (rubyrelay.com)

The Ruby Relay dashboard uses browser storage for authentication and account functionality. This includes session tokens, security tokens, and preferences such as your last-used workspace. These are essential for the dashboard to function and are scoped to rubyrelay.com.

Marketing Site (rubyrelay.com)

The Ruby Relay marketing site does not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking scripts. Any browser storage on the marketing site is limited to essential site functionality.

4. Storage Types

• Essential: Required for the chat widget, dashboard authentication, and security. These cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality.
• Functional: Used to remember returning visitors within the chat widget. Not strictly required for the widget to work, but disabling it means visitors cannot resume previous conversations.

We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or social media cookies.

5. Third-Party Storage

Ruby Relay does not set third-party cookies or storage. All browser storage used by the chat widget is first-party, scoped to your website's domain. Our integration with Slack is server-side and does not involve any storage on the visitor's browser.

6. Consent Considerations

If you embed the Ruby Relay chat widget on a website that serves visitors in the European Union or other jurisdictions that require consent for browser storage, you are responsible for obtaining appropriate consent from your visitors before non-essential storage is used. The visitor recognition identifier is classified as functional and may require consent depending on your jurisdiction. Conversation state storage used to maintain an active chat session is generally considered strictly necessary and exempt from consent requirements.

Ruby Relay supports delayed initialization of the widget, allowing you to defer loading until a visitor has provided consent through your own consent mechanism.

7. Managing Browser Storage

You can control cookies through your browser's cookie settings. To clear local storage and session storage, use your browser's "Clear site data" or "Clear browsing data" option. Most browsers allow you to:

• View and delete stored data (cookies, local storage, session storage)
• Block third-party cookies
• Block cookies from specific sites
• Block all cookies
• Clear all site data when you close the browser

Blocking or clearing browser storage may prevent the chat widget from functioning correctly. Visitors who clear storage will still be able to use the chat widget, but their conversation history will not persist across page navigations or return visits.

8. Updates to This Policy

If we change how we use cookies or browser storage, we will update this policy and the effective date at the top of the page. For material changes, we will notify account holders by email.
